This is one example of a large collection we have of antique flat irons c1800 onwards, for the smoothing of billiard cloth once it has been fitted to the table. They were heated over a stove or a gas ring, so great care was needed to ensure that it was heated enough to have an effect without overdoing things & scorching the cloth. We have many with the manufacturers names such as Burroughes & Watts, Thurston, George Wright, Orme & Sons and will be gradually adding these to the site.

Nowadays most people use an electric iron & some with thermostat control, but these old originals are very collectible and even if not put to the original use they make a great doorstop!  We can supply a piece of green baize to glue to the underside of the iron if it is to be used as a doorstop.
